Snowflakes and eight-pointed stars are the main features of the Winterbaby blanket. Using mosaic knitting and superwash merino wool makes a cushiony soft, and warm blanket for your baby. Line the blanket with a soft fabric to give it an extra layer and prevent those little fingers from catching the strands.

The eight-pointed star has been used as a symbol of protection for centuries. In many cultures, it is believed that the eight points represent the eight directions of the compass and that the star can protect against evil forces coming from any direction.

The star is also often seen as a symbol of purity and strength and is thought to bring good luck.

The blanket is worked in one piece in a mosaic garter stitch.

The size is easily adjustable by making more or fewer repeats.

The charts are also given in reversed colours or ease of use in case you decide to swap the light and dark colours in your blanket.

The sample was made in DK / 8 ply weight merino wool. Different yarn weights and fibres can be used. Using different fibres affects the size of the blanket and the amount of yarn needed.

The yarn used for the sample:

Drops Merino Extra Fine, #01 Off White, #13 Denim Blue

Yarn

Total consumption, approximately half in MC, half in CC.

The blanket is worked in one piece in a mosaic garter stitch, one of the easiest colourwork techniques. The mosaic might look intricate but fear not; it is fun and easy to make. Just one colour is used at a time no need to carry both yarns. Work two rows in one colour, then two rows in another colour, slipping stitches to create the pattern.

The pattern is tech-edited and test knitted.

The pattern uses metric and imperial systems.

The mosaic pattern is charted and written out.
